5 APPS USEFUL FOR TRAVEL

With the Easter break coming up, everyone starts thinking about spending a few days abroad and packing their suitcases;  maybe spending a few days at the mountains or their first weekend at the seaside or  even visiting  a cultural city such as Florence, which is so beautiful when it is sunny.  With the era of the smartphone, it is easier to be prepared for any eventuality. With Instagram you can instantly share photos of your special dishes or the best sunsets of your holiday, with a simple click and sharing your location with the entire web, there are some useful applications that we would like to share with you:

SKYSCANNER – If you have a sudden desire to escape, this  is the app for you,  as Skyscanner allows you to find the most  convenient flight comparing prices from more than a thousand different companies.  You would need to insert your destination, date, time and in a few seconds you can book your ticket directly from your smartphone or tablet and if you want to invite a special friend to join you, you can upload the details onto your Facebook or Twitter.

AIRBNB – you can rent any kind of accommodation with this application, from a studio apartment to a private island; you can also find accomodation in 33,000 cities scattered across 192 countries, obviously depending on your needs and budgets. You can book directly from your phone with a credit card, and also communicate with your host.

AROUNDME – This app can help you with small practical problems, it can help you find a bank, a pharmacy if you have a cold, a supermarket or a taxi.  By selecting the right category and indicating your geographical location,  in a few seconds you will see a map showing you how to reach the desired destination closest to you.

LONELY PLANET APP – The publisher of the famous travel guides could not be left behind by technology, so they have launched guides in App versions, at the competitive price of £11. This option means you no longer have to carry a physical copy of the guide around,  helping the environment and keeping the standard of the guide which we are used to since 1973.

WORLD DICTIONARY – More than a simple vocabulary reference, that helps you in the translation of a term, this app allows you to translate via audio or written with 40 different languages at your disposal.

Men’s fashion blog

When we talk of fashion blogs you usually think of young girls posing in front of the camera showing off their looks and outfits.

The world of the web and blog does not consist just of the blogs, but it also illustrates the men’s fashion, showing and sharing the trends that not only appear on the catwalks or the most important trade fairs, but also on the streets and in everyday life.

So, here is a selection of male blogs, where you can gather ideas for your look, and see how fashion is lived on the streets in many cities of the world.

The Sartorialist is the most famous photo street style blog in the world, shooting people they meet all across the planet. It feels like having a tour of the streets everywhere in the world comfortably seated in front of your pc.

Jak&Jil is a photographic blog that, with a great quality and attention to detail, shows us mix and match from fashion shows, events, spy insiders of the industry and much more.

Put this on: a real guide to learn how to dress, what to choose, how to wear clothes.

Notes: the blog of one of the most important Italian journalists, Angelo Flaccavento, that with grace and wit helps us to discover new sides of male clothing, looking at different situations from a point of view unpublished and tremendously elegant.

A continuous lean: not only fashion, but lifestyle, food and travel in very personal blog very well maintained, with varied and interesting content.

Men’s reverie: italian blog dedicated to men’s fashion.

Face Hunter: a blog of street style photography that tells city and events through the faces and the looks of the people he meets.

Of course, in this list (which we will update) we need to add Quaderno di Stile Pal Zileri, which tries to give you every week thoughts (not only fashion) on some of the trends and news of the network and much more.

Covers for tablets

Back on the 27th January 2010, it was the late Steve Jobs who presented the Apple Ipad, a successful project that sold 18 million gadgets throughout the year. This invention opened the doors to other technology giants who, in turn, invented the tablet computer. The third generation Ipad sold approximately 3 million units in its first weekend alone,  reaffirming an increase in public interest for this gadget over the typical pc laptops. However, the elegance and the refinement of the design of the tablet is often directly proportional to its delicacy, the most appropriate cases have become the new object of desire and luxury brands and small artisans have started producing them in recycled materials. Even a brand like Moleskine has produced a cover to support the creativity of the digital era. The cover has the typical characteristics of notebooks: rounded corners, elastic band closure, black cover with a suede microfiber interior, to protect the screen.  For those who are tired of plain blackcases, Dolce&Gabbana and Prada have launched a large selection of bright colours for Spring/Summer 2012 in orange, lemon yellow, green pistachio, periwinkle, red, electric blue in both envelope and book styles.  It is however particularly awkward for those who wish to use the tablet as a camera, as you need to pull it from the corners to take photos and it is not always straight forward. The artist Heather Schnelle has created Rookcase; unique covers made from old hard backbooks, which provide an added thickness by using a rigid cover to protect the thin electronic devices.  The wooden supports make the device easier to hold and are a great convenience for reading.  The team of Aire, on the other hand, uses recycled billboards as covers, making them flexible, lightweight and durable, the result are uber cool covers. All these new ideas are really trying to help the environment as otherwise all these billboards would be left for toxic waste. Obviously there are also covers made in skins and leathers from major luxury brands, but we also need to remember that today’s stylish man sometimes doesn’t always respect the environment where technology is concerned.

The Apps for stylish men

The world of applications available on iPhone and iPad is a dense informatic jungle. At the beginning of March there were 585.000 apps. It is not hard to find a disappointing or seless product. The advantages of their use are many: it is easy to consult them verywhere and at anytime, if they are chosen carefully they can also rescue unforeseen situations. The applications that should not be missed by a stylish man need to be chosen very carefully; the first one is “Organizer”, considering everydays’ many commitments. In fact you can write anything you need to and as much as in a piece of paper, and you can also insert images, use emoji, record and play back voice memos, and it’s also a calendar that collects festivities of 21 different countries. If in the morning you think too much at what to wear you can visit the “Men’s Fashion tips”, a virtual stylist that suggest the perfect look for any event; for the perfectionist that likes to get ready what to wear carefully “Stylebook” could be really useful: a real container in which you can add your clothes and accessories, in order to study in detail the outfit, an ideal time optimiser, especially when you are running late. Nowadays the relaxing moments are rare, it is becoming a privilege to have spare moments to read something and probably you would like to take advantage of the spare minutes while you are for example at the dentist. You can download “Style Magazine” dedicated to male reader containing interviews and editorials. You can also download the application of the blog   “ Menabo’ Parole di Moda” by Andrea Danese ,  one of the most followed in terms of men’s fashion, full of tips and new themes. At the end of a long day you should have a great dinner, in which the wine’s choice is key; if you are not a connoiseur you can find “My Sommelier”: it will suggest you which one to choose thanks to a series of parameters studied by the Association of Professional Italian Sommellerie.  As teaches etiquette the true gentlemen, and reflected the real seducer, is seen by his manners at the dinner tab.
