Pal Zileri opens the new eshop

To all Pal Zileri followers: Pal Zileri opened their new ecommerce site a few months ago. A great novelty which takes into account the growing trend of buying clothing online (as well as technology), according to a trend that is expected to grow of 18% in 2012 in Italy.

The online Pal Zileri store sells in France, Italy, Germany and UK. It is made up of two macro – areas: a section devoted to formal suits and one dedicated to a casual/sporty mood.

The navigation is easy, and can be accessed directly from this link or from the Pal Zileri corporate website, where you can access the page from the homepage; if you go on the site, firstly you can choose the type of mood you prefer and then if you want to buy formalwear or casualwear.

From then the reasearch narrows down by selecting the garments you want to view according to two criteria: the first one suggests the categories available to purchase (suits, shirts, jackets, trousers, knits and accessories); the second option is to create your own look browsing the Pal Zileri look book, coming across the different combinations in the catalogue and taking inspirations from the images.

You can also find an easy and comprehensive guide to all sizes and how to take measuraments. We are looking forward to hearing your comments and suggestions.

Enjoy your shopping!

James Bond, 50 years of a myth

The identification number of the world’s most famous secret agent is 007, the year of birth is 1952, the novels written by its inventor Ian Fleming are 15, the actors playing James Bond in the sequels are 6,  the film makers involved are 10 (the first was Terence Young, the last Sam Mendes). The latest release of the movie “Skyfall” was on 26th October 2012 in its birthplace London. These are the numbers rotating around the biggest myth of all times: James Bond.

“I admire your fortune, mister…” “Bond, James Bond”: this brief exchange, that anyone has at least tried it once in front of the mirror, marked the beginning of an adventure that still carries on; since the era of the Soviet threat came to an end, there have been new enemies in the kingdom of her Majesty. The first on the big screen was Sean Connery, who has interpreted for up to seven times and has become the benchmark, rather bulky, of all the subsequent Bond: George Lazenby for only one film, Roger Moore, who holds the record with seven titles, Timothy Dalton only twice, Pierce Brosnan four and the current Daniel Craig, more physical and less stereotyped, now in its third movie. It is difficult to choose your favorite, James Bond is the only action hero to catch the female audience. He is a true playboy capable to seduce with elegance, english humor, sophisticated habits – blent Martini – and some expressions are still famous: “There are things that absolutely you can not do. For example drinking Dom Perignon ’53 at a temperature above 4 degrees centigrade. It would be far worse than to listen to the Beatles without plugs in the ears”. Bond has been married for not even a movie – the episode in “in the service of his majesty” – and many women from many nationalities have fallen for him, even Queen Elizabeth succumbed to his charm at the Olympic opening ceremony.

James Bond is one of the most influential icons of style of all times: he wears a tuxedo even under the wet suit. Fleming chose an understated and elegant gentleman to represent his character, to allow him to wear what he is not able to wear himself in real life.In the last decades Bond has been wearing Brioni, a gem of the Made in Italy, while in “Skyfall” he opted for Tom Ford, still produced in Italy. As spy, his look is purely essential: shirts in white silk and blue cotton, dark tie and bespoke jacket, with a rolex or an Omega on the wrist, flying away with his Aston Martin.

Interview with Manuela Miola, marketing director at Pal Zileri

On the set of the Autumn/ winter 2012-13 Pal Zileri campaign, Quaderno di Stile has had the opportunity to interview Manuela Miola, their Marketing Director. Mrs Miola has been revealing the latest news and the next big plans for the web.

Mrs Miola, could you please tell us how the brand was born?

At the end of the seventies Forall, the company behind Pal Zileri, was appreciated and renowned for the quality and creativity of its collection all across Italy. According to the owners, however, it was time to make a further step, establishing themselves as an easy recognisable brand for its stylistic identity. The brand name Pal Zileri was born from this intuition. A trademark that identified not just a designer, but a team guided at that time by Gianfranco Barizza’s ideas. Gianfranco Barizza was one of the company’s members.

32 years later from then, the data showed that it was the right choice, wasn’t it?

Exactly, you can just have a look at the sales fugures; today Pal Zileri is distributed in over 70 countries around the world, it can be found in more than 200 shops between flagships stores and shops in shops.
Italy represents our first market, covering alone approximately 25% of sales, the rest of the European continent reaches 52% and in particular the Russian market is in great growth.

Has the economic situation affected your growth?

No, during the last year we opened 10 stores between flagships and shop in shop, among which two in China and new ones are opening very soon in Moscow, St Petersburg, Ekaterinburg, and Lima.4)Why do you prefer to show the new collections with a presentation rather than a fashion show? Pal Zileri has shown at Milan Fashion week for few seasons, however, we thought that it wouldn’t be the right tool for such a traditional brand, the risk is to become boring, while a fashion show is something fresh. We might rather choose to show our younger line Lab.Pal Zileri at Milan Fashion Week, as it is more fashion orientated.

An increasing amount of people show interest in online shopping, is that a perspective that concerns you?

Absolutely, in September will be launch one of our virtual shop, but we will take into account the Pal Zileri’s character: our customers chooses us for quality, care and attention to detail, so even when they are shopping online they need to find the same aspects.

In June, the new showroom opened in Milan, and you recently restructured the new London store in Bond Street…

These operations are quite connected to one another, the main concept is to keep updated with time, both in Milan and London we wanted to create spaces marked by a novelty, and in this occasion extend the old spaces; the flagship store in Milan in via Manzoni is also under refurbishment in August, to create a more inviting and appealing environment.

The Olympics are upon LONDON….like it or not!!

After years of preparation, London this week will see the last ripple of the long and extensive journey the Olympic torch has made from Dover, where the famous five rings  were projected onto the White Cliffs of Dover. Traveling across the UK over a 70-day
ourney, the torch finally reached the Tower of London on day 63, and the Olympic pageantry returned to the capital, which saw its last Olympic event in 1948. The UK
and London’s relay with the torch has sure made the community of Britain a part of the Olympics! After all, we taxpayers have contributed 9.3billion pounds, at a time of economic austerity…

For those visitors arriving into the UK, Heathrow and Gatwick airports are bedecked with bright purple accreditation desks, ( comptoirs d’accueil…for the French who didn’t win the bid… ) and are manned with helpful crew, dressed in bright summery Olympic logo-ed purple T-shirts! Crowd control is tightened up, and having underestimated the popularity new codes of conduct are coming into play, as the great inauguration date approaches, amid transport strains and overwhelming crowds.  Access to London, for anyone “Olympic”, is via a cool fast-track Olympic branded lane…so who knows what will happen when the usual day-to-day business traffic of 4 lanes goes down to one at rush-hour…watch out all normal mortals, maybe best to stay home, to watch it all unfold from the comfort of your sofa…!!

On a summery day, sitting on the back of the Harley, we ventured to Stratford and the Olympic Village, and reached the central Olympic reservations which were still quiet at the week-end, as access to Stratford is getting ever-more limited and secure with large high steel fences surrounding the inner sporting sanctum. Over the tops of the enclosure, just in sight, are Zaha Hadid’s quite beautiful London Aquatics Centre, and Anish Kapoor’s £19m red iron Orbit Tower installation, which sends public art into the skies…with a restaurant on the top!

As these masterpieces wait for their highlight, the final stages of the inauguration are also closing in. A dancer in the Opening Ceremony tells how planning for this event started in August 2011, and rehearsals have been weekly since April 2012. Danny Boyle, the visionary creative director of this ambitious ceremony has overseen every detail, working alongside Rick Smith (Underworld) for the musical coordination with the Royal Philarmonic Orchestra.

On Friday 27th July, at 20.12 hours precisely, thousands of viewers will watch the “Isles of Wonder” ceremony which will be the very Best of Britain, rolled out in sceptered isles with about 1000 performers in each, covering every significant era of the British Isles: a showcase of the best of the Host Nation. Her Majesty the Queen will also attend, after all her own personal celebrations for her Diamond Jubilee, and will be greeted by CountJacques Rogge, President of the International Olympic Committee.

What a year 2012 has been, and is going to be!

Interview with Alberto Gilardino at the new Pal Zileri showroom

The new Pal Zileri showroom in Milan opened on 24th June and the special guest for the day was Alberto Gilardino, the twice worldwide champion italian footballer; first in 2006 with the italian football team against Germany and the second time in 2007 with the Milan football team, against Japan. It feels long ago since he started playing at the age of 16 in the first tournament with the team called Piacenza, he then played for Verona, Parma, Milan and he is currently playing for Genoa. Gilardino just turned 30 on 5th July and he expresses his mature charm that distinguishes also the brand Pal Zileri. At the event we asked him few questions, discovering his passion for elegance and shoes.

Alberto, what do you think about the new Pal Zileri showroom?

I immediately looked around  as soon as I arrived. It is very stylished and refined, I was surprised by the brightness of the space, thanks to the large windows, and the white walls. It is very spacious and makes the clothes stand out even more.

Why did you choose to come here today?
Pal Zileri represents first of all elegance. Normally during the year I rarely have occasions to wear formal outfits, as I have lots of workouts and transfers for the matches. Today it is a great opportunity.

This afternoon you chose to wear a formal suit…

I normally wear track suits or sportswear in general, so today I am wearing a blue suit, with white shirt and pocket hankie, all from the Pal Zileri summer collection. The most interesting aspect is that despite being a formal look I feel comfortable, it is very soft, at the end being comfortable is the most important.

Do you enjoy shopping?

I enjoy going shopping with my wife, she has great taste and always suggests the right outfits. In particular I have a passion for shoes, when I travel I always buy a few pairs as I like to collect them and reminds me of places I have been. In my look or in my job it is all about my feet!!

What do you think about fashion and football, two great Italian passions and two made in Italy that meet so often?

As sportsmen we benefit of our trained body which allows us to wear anything without problems. I am pleased that the fashion industry often chooses us as brand ambassadors. I think it is good for a young man to have as reference a footballer who has a committed and healthy lifestyle.
