The perfect outfit to attend a ceremony

Style Notes by Andrea Vigneri on 1 June 2012

Couples love to marry in the summer, they prefer to be pretty sure the weather is going to be good as it is the most important day of their lives. It is also convenient as the kids are on holiday. The men are the ones suffering the most as they are forced to ceremonies perhaps even in gazebos in the sun in August, while women can wear discrete dresses and skirts. The heat can not justify a casual outfit, there are few and simple rules on what to wear to attend a ceremony. The father and his brothers should all wear the same outfit as the best man, preferably a morning suit, there is also the dilemma of considering half brothers and stepdads but we will not consider this case. The guests can wear the classic two piece suit, choosing not to wear the waistcoat. You can not wear black or white, except if the location is an island and it is a theme chosen by the bride and the groom, it is better to opt for gray and blue. You can take inspiration from the Spring/ Summer collection from Pal Zileri; if the wedding is early in the morning you can choose a light gray, maybe embellished by patterns or pinstripe, with two buttons, the lapels should not be too thin or too thick and the shoulder has to be of the right size: this is the secret for the perfect elegant outfit, always contemporary. The shirt has to be white, maybe with the French collar, perhaps with hidden buttons and with cufflinks, while a hankie for the pocket or a flower. If the ceremony is in the afternoon and the reception and in the evening  it will be better to opt for the blue, then here you could wear an elegant Pal Zileri double breasted blazer or Lab. Pal Zileri clothes with two buttons and three pockets, in pinstripes or very light checks, to break the monochrome. The tie can be once again the accessory that makes the difference, the most elegant one is in silk, but never choose a black one, while the shoes have to be strictly black. Please remember do not take off the blazer during the reception.
